JOB DESCRIPTION:
Group Leader - Pharmacokinetic
In collaboration with Vertex Research teams, the Drug Innovation Pharmacokinetic group (DIPK) is dedicated to translate novel research discoveries into effective therapeutics for unmet medical needs by leveraging investigational in PKPD efforts.
Vertex is seeking a talented individual to join our Drug Innovation Pharmacokinetics group in Cambridge, MA. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled and passionate leader of a PK discovery group. The successful candidate will lead a group of scientists and senior scientists to successfully integrate investigational PK and PKPD strategies into our preclinical and clinical development programs. She/He will provide scientific leadership to develop PKPD strategies for each drug discovery project her/his group will be responsible for from early stage through IND filing. This candidate will be expected to form close collaborations with other DIPK groups and our chemistry, biology, pharmacology, formulation and toxicology groups. Primary responsibilities are as follows: Provide scientific leadership and guidance to drug discovery projects e.g. PK SAR, PKPD models. Develop and integrate PK strategies into our drug discovery and development programs. Drive scientific and technical innovation. Mentor the junior scientists in the group both on the technical and professional aspects and identify developmental opportunities for them. Participate as a key member of at least one project team and be responsible for all the PK work. Plan future needs for the group and help recruit critical hires into the group when necessary.
Minimum Requirements
PhD degree in relevant scientific field (e.g. pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry or a closely related discipline) or equivalent. A strong knowledge of pre-clinical in pharmacokinetic and PKPD and their impact on drug discovery projects is critical. A seven (7) years post-doctoral relevant industry experience or equivalent. Knowledge of chemistry and physico-chemical properties as applied to drug discovery is necessary. Knowledge and experience with the design of experiments to define PK-PD relationships and competency using non-compartmental techniques and pharmacokinetic modeling software (e.g., WinNonlin or equivalent) is required. Experience having written pharmacokinetic sections of IND is a plus. Excellent cross-functional team leadership and participation skills. Ability to build, lead and manage a group of highly motivated scientists is required. Ability to lead, influence and motivate others, both within direct supervisory and matrixed environments. Ability to demonstrate effectiveness and growth in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
