JOB DESCRIPTION:
HIM Specialist
1. Interprets and retrieves medical records information from patients' medical charts at Aston Center and affiliated hospitals. Locates and pulls charts and copies requested. Analyzes requests to determine what records are to be pulled and from which facility. Retrieves documents located via personal computer and investigates and/or locates missing files.
2. Assists in performing reporting and clerical functions within division. Completes request forms, documents records retrieval activity, mails requested information to requestors. Assists with production reports and logs.
3. Retrieves and delivers STAT requests for medical record.
4. Enters information to patient accounts using computer.
5. Functions as resource person for clinical department personnel to answer questions and assists with problem resolution.
6. Monitors trends in Medical Record requests processing and informs management.
7. Completes special projects and analyzes demographic information.
8. Provides back up relief for various areas.
9. Logs all incoming medical records and routes to appropriate location. Reviews and delivers medical records for scheduled appointments.
10. Answers telephones, routine questions or transfers calls. Receives visitors and provides information. Makes copies, fax documents, and performs miscellaneous office support functions.
11. Sorts and files loose reports in correct patient medical record. Completes requests for release of information.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Associate degree or one year of college in Business Administration,
Health Information Management, or related field and 1-3 years of
previous healthcare experience and/or vocational training or
vocational certificate in Health Information Management strongly
preferred but not required.
