JOB DESCRIPTION: DMETS Field Engineer Sr.

General Dynamics C4 Systems' Battle Management Systems Division designs, develops, and integrates highly sophisticated command, control, and communications systems for the U.S. military, federal agencies, civil governments and related international customers. These state-of-the-art, integrated systems combine advanced visualization software and multi-sensor inputs to provide near real-time situational awareness to tactical decision makers. Our engineers help transform large amounts of complex data into useful information that is clearly and intuitively presented to end users, enabling them to make better-informed decisions. We design and develop systems and software for a wide range of global missions including: battle command; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; airspace management; crisis and emergency management; peace keeping and contingency operations; drug intervention, and public safety.

The DMETS Field Engineer is Responsible for operating and sustaining the C2BMC server as part of the architecture, support of the Warfighter and providing Engineering reachback. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining both hardware and software in a complex heterogeneous computing environment consisting of UNIX, Windows 2000 (Servers and Clients), CISCO Routers and Switches, SGI, and other network components. In this position the successful candidate will work in a team environment to ensure a major element of the national missile defense system is operational on a 24x7 basis. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, fielding and sustainment of the BMDS DMETS capability as well as train, qualify, certify and maintain proficiency of BMDS personnel in performing their warfighting mission at operating locations; provide Ops concept, scenarios and training development and validate display data accuracy; provide engineering expertise to support ad hoc customer requests to participate in Command, Control and Battle Management discussions and to relate this experience to DMETS related engineering discussions; supply inputs to status reports to include activities accomplished and support participation in the weekly IPT meetings and administer the C2BMC configuration management processes; interface and answer warfighter mission related questions, provide guidance to the warfighter on the use of DMETS for situational awareness, support the conduct of pre-event training, and answer warfighter questions during or post scenario runs; provide engineering expertise to the DMETS effort for the purpose of providing diagnostic support to DMETS and engineering analysis and resolution of DMETS related SMRs; be a team member providing support to the NORTHCOM Combatant Command Center. Limited local travel is required. Shift work may be required depending on schedule.

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related technical field or the equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 9 years of directly related field engineering support experience. A minimum of 11 years of directly related experience is preferred. Experience with operation and maintenance of a large-scale complex system is required; experience with BMDS DMETS is preferred. The candidate will possess the skills of an experienced System Administrator with SUN Solaris UNIX / Microsoft Windows NT System experience. Previous experience in configuring or maintaining CISCO routers and switches is a plus. Knowledge of operations and support processes at Regional and Combatant Command Centers (STRATCOM, PACOM, EUCOM, NORTHCOM etc.) is highly desirable. Knowledge of Missile Defense and/or military systems is a plus. The candidate must be a self-starting problem solver with the ability to work with limited supervision. Management experience is a plus. The candidate must possess 1) the ability to listen effectively, and adapt to changing requirements; 2) strong written and oral communication skills; 3) the ability to communicate thorough system knowledge and capabilities to customers at all levels up to and including General Officer; 4) demonstrated skills in individual and group training at all levels (individual operator through higher-level commanders and staff principals. The candidate must be capable of passing a military physical for deployment to a State Department declared Contingency or Combat Zone. Secret level U.S. DoD security clearance is required.

Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
